Overhead Throwing 2

Physical Education Lesson Plan

S: PE
T: Overhand Throwing #2
O: K: To continue practicing correct form while throwing for distance.
1st: While using correct form, practice throwing for accuracy. To practice catching.
P: Teacher demonstration and explanation.

1. Partner Throw

Using a soft ball, students will practice throwing and catching to a partner using correct form.

2. Throw for Distance

Students will be in about 12 lines with 2 students in each line. The student in front will have a bean bag. On the teacher’s signal, all students will use correct form and throw the bean bag as far as they can. Students will run out to get the bean bag and bring it back to their partner. The next students will throw when told.

3. Frogs on the Lily Pads

Students are divided into 6 lines with about 4 students per line. Each student will have a bean bag. Each line will have one hula hoop that is placed a suitable distance in front of them. The hula hoops are the lily pads. The bean bags are the frogs. One student at a time from each line does an overhand throw trying to land their frog on the lily pad. When the students in one of the lines get four frogs on their lily pad, they win. If the bean bag misses the lily pad, the student runs out and gets the bean bag and returns to the end of the line. If the bean bag lands on the lily pad, the teacher will give that student another bean bag and then that student returns to the end of the line.
